Autodesk Opens New Workshop for Advanced Manufacturing & Making in Port of San Francisco

Over the past few years, Autodesk has significantly expanded its presence in San Francisco by introducing the Autodesk Gallery and the stunning offices at One Market Street, which highlight the power of Autodesk software and sustainable design. This week marked a major milestone in the company’s Bay Area growth with the grand opening of the Autodesk Workshop at Pier 9—a 27,000-square-foot facility designed to support Autodesk’s mission of empowering people to imagine, design, and create a better future. The new space is equipped with cutting-edge tools and technologies, offering hands-on experiences with materials like wood, metal, and composites. It supports digital fabrication through CNC prototyping, 3D printing, and more. The workshop is open to select Autodesk employees and partners who have completed training and safety protocols, and it will play a key role in the Autodesk Artist in Residence program. The event was attended by notable figures including Autodesk CEO Carl Bass, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, Supervisor David Chiu, Port of San Francisco Executive Director Monique Moyer, along with customers, partners, and local officials. The location, situated along the San Francisco Bay and just a short walk from existing Autodesk offices, symbolizes the company’s commitment to innovation and community engagement. In addition to the workshop, the space houses the Autodesk Consumer Group, which focuses on making creative tools and communities accessible to kids, hobbyists, artists, and makers worldwide. The Instructables team, known for its DIY content, has relocated here, joining the broader consumer team under one roof. Autodesk Research’s Bio/Nano/Programmable Matter group is also based at Pier 9. They’ll use a dedicated meta-lab to explore how biology can be used as a design medium and test new scientific hardware innovations. The opening of the Autodesk Workshop at Pier 9 has already attracted attention from media outlets such as the San Francisco Business Times and GigaOm, highlighting its significance in the tech and design landscape.

PC polycarbonate Film

PC film is the abbreviation of polycarbonate film, which is an amorphous, odorless, non-toxic, highly transparent colorless or yellowish thermoplastic engineering plastic.

advantage
It has excellent physical and mechanical properties, especially excellent impact resistance, high tensile strength, bending strength, and compression strength; good heat resistance and low temperature resistance, stable mechanical properties in a wide temperature range, and size Stability, electrical properties and flame retardancy, can be used for a long time at -60~120℃; no obvious melting point, in a molten state at 220-230℃; high rigidity, high resin melt viscosity; low water absorption, low shrinkage , Small creep, high dimensional accuracy, good dimensional stability, low permeability of the film; self-extinguishing material; stable to light, but not resistant to ultraviolet light, good weather resistance; oil and acid resistance.

Disadvantage
The fatigue strength is poor, stress cracking easily occurs, and the wear resistance is poor. Poor resistance to solvents, not resistant to strong alkalis, oxidizing acids, amines and ketones, soluble in chlorinated hydrocarbons and aromatic solvents, and prone to hydrolysis and cracking in water for a long time.

pc film classification
PC films are divided into: halogen-free flame-retardant PC, black flame-retardant PC, transparent flame-retardant PC, frosted PC, transparent PC, hardened PC, scratch-resistant PC, scratch-resistant PC, printing-grade PC, optical-grade PC

pc film use
1. Flame-retardant pc film is used for power system insulation, disk drive insulation, keyboard insulation, TV/display insulation, and computer motherboard insulation. It is widely used in electronic components, electrical enclosures, switch panels, junction boxes and charger enclosures, automotive instrumentation and panel printing with flame-retardant requirements.

2. Printing grade frosted pc film is suitable for special printing, helmets, signs, nameplates, protective covers, etc.

3. Anti-scratch pc film Uses: window lenses for mobile phones, MP3, MP4, DVD, backlight and other electronic products
