Autodesk Opens New Workshop for Advanced Manufacturing & Making in Port of San Francisco

Over the past few years, Autodesk has significantly expanded its footprint in San Francisco, introducing spaces like the Autodesk Gallery and the stunning offices at One Market Street. These locations highlight the power of Autodesk software and emphasize sustainable design practices. Now, the next chapter of Autodesk’s growth in the Bay Area has begun with the grand opening of the Autodesk Workshop at Pier 9—a 27,000-square-foot facility designed to support innovation across multiple industries. Located along the scenic San Francisco Bay, just a short walk from Autodesk’s existing offices, the new space was officially launched this week. The event was attended by key figures including Autodesk President and CEO Carl Bass, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, Supervisor David Chiu, and Port of San Francisco Executive Director Monique Moyer, among others. This milestone marks a major step forward in Autodesk's mission to empower people to imagine, design, and create a better future through cutting-edge tools and collaborative environments. The Autodesk Workshop at Pier 9 is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for hands-on experimentation with materials such as wood, metal, and composites. It supports a wide range of fabrication methods, from basic construction to CNC prototyping and 3D printing. A comprehensive list of the workshop’s equipment can be found online, offering a glimpse into the advanced tools available for digital fabrication and additive manufacturing. Access to the workshop is limited to select Autodesk employees and partners who have completed necessary training and safety protocols. It also serves as a central hub for the Autodesk Artist in Residence program, fostering creativity and innovation in the maker community. In addition to the main workshop, the space houses the Autodesk Consumer Group, which focuses on making creative tools accessible to a global audience—kids, hobbyists, artists, designers, and makers alike. The Instructables team, known for its engaging DIY content, has relocated to this new location, joining other consumer-focused teams under one roof. The Autodesk Bio/Nano/Programmable Matter group, part of Autodesk Research, is also based at Pier 9. This team will use an on-site meta-lab to explore the intersection of biology and design, while also testing new scientific hardware solutions. The opening of the Autodesk Workshop at Pier 9 has received attention from local media, including coverage in the San Francisco Business Times and GigaOm. With its blend of innovation, sustainability, and community engagement, the new facility is set to become a vital hub for creativity and collaboration in the Bay Area.

Blister Packaging Machine

The blister machine (also called the thermoforming machine) is a machine that sucks the heat-plasticized PVC, PE, PP, PET, HIPS and other thermoplastic plastic coils into various shapes of high-grade packaging boxes, frames and other products. Using the vacuum suction force generated by the vacuum pump, the heated and softened PVC, PET and other thermoplastic plastic sheets are blister-molded into various shapes of vacuum covers, blister trays, blisters, etc.

Machine introduction
The principle of the blister forming machine: blister forming is also called thermoforming. This forming process mainly uses the vacuum suction generated by the vacuum pump to soften the heated PVC, PET, PETG, APTT, PP, PE, PS and other thermoplastic plastic sheets The material is vacuum-formed into various shapes of vacuum hoods through molds, or attached to the surface of various shapes of products. According to the thickness of the sheet, the blister is divided into thin blister and thick blister.

The main structure of the machine is composed of feeding, drawing, upper and lower electric heating furnace, lower gate, multi-functional adjustable size, lower mold plate, upper mold, upper gate, knife gate, slicing, placing film, and vacuum equipment. ;

The common products of thick plastic blister include: household appliance inner shell, luggage, display rack accessories, decoration, car interior, bumper, mudguard, beauty equipment, light box shell, toy car shell, industrial panel, advertising light box, Blister LOGO, bathroom products, refrigerator liner, etc.

main application
Plastic packaging industry (blister packaging, plastics, batteries, toys, gifts, hardware, home appliances, electronics, stationery, decoration)

Food packaging industry (fast food boxes, fruit trays, biscuit boxes)

Pharmaceutical industry (pill packaging, tablet packaging)

Industrial cooling tower cooling water deflector, etc.

Three-dimensional relief patterns for decoration, plastic ceilings, wall panels, automotive materials, sanitary equipment and other manufacturing industries.

Suitable for the production of various color sheets: polyethylene PS, polyvinyl chloride PVC, organic glass, ABS, polymethyl methacrylate; flocking sheets; environmentally friendly sheets APET, PET, PP, etc.; photodegradable materials; biodegradable Materials and other plastic products.
