SAN FRANCISCO, February 24, 2021 — Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) has officially announced its intent to acquire Innovyze, a leading provider of water infrastructure software based in Portland, Oregon, for $1 billion, net of cash, subject to working capital and tax adjustments. This strategic move reinforces Autodesk’s position as a key player in the digital transformation of the water industry, offering comprehensive solutions from design to operations. It also accelerates the company’s digital twin strategy and supports a more sustainable and technologically advanced future for global water systems.
Autodesk has successfully acquired Innovyze. Find out more about this milestone here.
Innovyze specializes in modeling, simulation, and predictive analytics that help create more efficient and sustainable water distribution networks, collection systems, treatment plants, and flood protection infrastructure. Their tools provide a centralized view of infrastructure assets, enabling better management of both capital and operational costs. By integrating Innovyze’s technology with Autodesk’s design and analysis platforms—such as Civil 3D, InfraWorks, and the Autodesk Construction Cloud—engineers, utilities, and water experts can make smarter decisions and improve long-term planning.
For over three decades, Innovyze has been at the forefront of innovation in water management, serving approximately 3,000 clients worldwide. These include major utility companies in some of the world's most populated cities, top engineering firms listed by ENR, and leading environmental consultancies across five continents.
Today, over two billion people still lack access to clean drinking water, and by 2025, more than two-thirds of the global population will live in areas facing water scarcity. This growing challenge underscores the importance of investing in modern, intelligent water infrastructure.
“We can’t build a sustainable future without better managing our water resources,†said Andrew Anagnost, President and CEO of Autodesk. “With an estimated $1.9 trillion needed to address global water infrastructure needs by 2030, we believe this acquisition is a crucial step toward creating a more resilient and digitally driven water industry.â€
Amy Bunszel, Executive Vice President of AEC Design Solutions at Autodesk, added, “Every year, nearly nine trillion gallons of water are lost due to leaks and pipe failures. Without visibility into these issues, we can’t solve them. Innovyze’s tools offer the insights necessary to detect and prevent such problems before they escalate.â€
Colby Manwaring, CEO of Innovyze, shared, “For 35 years, Innovyze has quietly played a vital role in daily life around the globe, ensuring clean water, managing sewage, and protecting communities from flooding. With Autodesk’s deep design expertise, we’re excited to combine our strengths and work together to shape a more sustainable future.â€
More details about the acquisition can be found in the accompanying PDF.
The deal is expected to close during Autodesk’s first quarter of Fiscal Year 2022, which ends on April 30, 2021, pending customary closing conditions.
