Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) has announced a definitive agreement to acquire key technology assets from Graitec, including the Advance Steel and Advance Concrete product lines, along with related employees. This strategic move is designed to strengthen Autodesk’s BIM (Building Information Modeling) capabilities in structural engineering and construction, offering more integrated solutions for design, detailing, and fabrication.
The acquisition underscores Autodesk’s ongoing commitment to advancing model-based workflows across the entire building lifecycle. By integrating Graitec’s specialized tools, Autodesk aims to provide a more seamless experience for engineers, fabricators, and contractors involved in steel and concrete structures. The transaction is expected to close during the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2014, pending standard closing conditions, with financial details remaining undisclosed.
Amar Hanspal, Senior Vice President of Information Modeling and Platform Products at Autodesk, emphasized that the deal will enhance customer workflows and support the industry’s shift toward BIM. “We’re excited to welcome Graitec’s team, customers, and partners into the Autodesk family,†he said.
Graitec, based in France, is a global leader in CAD and engineering software for structural and civil engineering. Its Advance Steel and Advance Concrete products are widely used for BIM-based steel and concrete detailing. Graitec will continue to support and develop its existing product lines post-acquisition.
