Winnetka updates their apparatus

The Winnetka Fire Department, part of MABAS Division 3, has introduced a new look with their recently commissioned quint. The 2010 Smeal quint arrived with a black roof, and the department developed a fresh door seal design. This new emblem features a gold and black Maltese cross that incorporates both "Winnetka" and "Kenilworth" into its design. Engine 28, a 2000 Pierce Saber, now has a black top, the updated decal, and new striping. Ambulance 28 also received the same modern touch. However, Engine 28R and Ambulance 28R still retain their original appearance and the previous door decal. ![WINN_decal](#) This image shows the new decal design for the Winnetka Fire Department. ![WINN_T28-LS](#) Here is the 2010 Smeal Sirius quint, Truck 28, in its updated form. ![WINN_T28-5280-LS](#) This photo captures the retired 1990 Pierce Arrow 75' quint, which was recently removed from service. It had the latest door seal and two-tone striping. ![WINN_T28-LS](#) This image highlights the 1990 Pierce Arrow, showing its 1,250-GPM pump and 300-gallon water tank. Larry Shapiro photo When the department first received Truck 28 in 1990, the graphics were much simpler, and the door seal featured a sunrise over a lake. ![Winnetka_T70-900_ALF-LS](#) Before the 1990 Pierce, the department used this American LaFrance 900-Series mid-mount aerial. Larry Shapiro photo Prior to joining MABAS Division 3, Winnetka’s units carried numbers like “70.” Truck 70 was one of the department’s two aerials, along with a 55-foot Snorkel. ![WINN_E28-LS](#) Engine 28 now features a black roof and a triple stripe, along with the new door seal. ![WINN_E28-4575-LS](#) This photo shows Engine 28 with its old white roof and blue door seal. Larry Shapiro photo The previous design on Engine 28 included both Winnetka and Kenilworth on the rear door. The new decal keeps those names but allows more space for a clean, modern graphic that displays the unit number clearly. ![WINN_E28_366-LS](#) This is how Engine 28 looked when it was delivered in 2000. Larry Shapiro photo At the time of purchase, Engine 28 had the rising sun door decal, similar to the one shown above.
