The new Pierce Arrow XT assigned to Glenview Engine 8 this year marks a significant shift from the older models used by Engine 6 and 7. One of the most obvious changes is the heavier Arrow XT cab and chassis, which replaces the lighter Enforcer models previously in use. The Arrow XT also comes with a heavy steel bumper instead of the chrome bumpers found on earlier units.
Another key difference lies in the body design. Engine 8 features a larger, more robust body with deeper 'rescue-style' compartments. The front compartment includes a slide-out tool board, while the rear houses a full set of hydraulic extrication tools. There are also 'coffin-style' compartments on top of the body that store the cord reels for the hydraulic tools and haz-mat supplies. As the first haz-mat response unit in the area, Engine 8 works closely with Truck 14 for extrication operations. Engines 6, 7, and 13 have basic 'combi-tools' for minor incidents, but only Engine 8 and Truck 14 are equipped with the full range of specialized equipment.

Glenview Fire Department is currently in the early stages of planning for two additional engines. One will be a standard model, while the second will follow the same rescue-style design as Engine 8. However, this new unit will not be designated for haz-mat response and will instead focus on technical rescue operations, carrying specialized equipment for those types of calls.
