The newly assigned Pierce Arrow XT to Glenview Engine 8 marks a significant shift from the previous apparatus used by Engines 6 and 7. One of the most noticeable differences is the heavier Arrow XT cab and chassis, which contrasts with the lighter Enforcer models that were previously in use. The Arrow XT also features a heavy-duty steel bumper instead of the chrome bumpers found on earlier units. Another key change is the body design—Engine 8 now has a larger, more robust frame with deeper 'rescue-style' compartments. These compartments are designed for better access and storage, including a slide-out tool board in the front, a full set of hydraulic extrication tools in the rear, and 'coffin-style' compartments on top that hold cord reels and haz-mat supplies.

As the first haz-mat response unit in the area, Engine 8 works closely with Truck 14 for extrication operations. While Engines 6, 7, and 13 are equipped with basic 'combi-tools' for minor incidents, only Engine 8 and Truck 14 have the full range of equipment needed for complex extrications. This makes Engine 8 a critical part of the department's emergency response strategy.

Glenview Fire Department is currently in the early stages of acquiring two more engines. One will be a standard model, while the second will follow the same rescue-style configuration as Engine 8. However, this new unit will focus on technical rescue rather than haz-mat response. This move reflects the department’s growing emphasis on specialized equipment and training to meet the evolving needs of the community.
