Ibn Rushd, a subsidiary of Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), said that the company plans to build a new 525,000 t/y polypropylene (PP) unit in Saudi Arabia before 2012. The company currently has obtained the Spheripol PP patent technology license from Lyondell-Basell.
According to LyondellBasell, the device will become the world's largest single PP device using Spheripol's patented technology. The construction of the device will expand the scope of production of the Arab Industrial Fibre Company. The company's current main products include aromatics, refined terephthalic acid (PTA), polyester fabric slicing, polyester fabric fibers, bottle-level slicing, and staple fiber.
