Bridgestone Corporation has announced that it will invest approximately US$60 million in expanding its production capacity in its facilities in Kitakyushu, Japan, in order to more quickly meet the growing global demand. The plant produces large and super large-scale mechanized radial tires for construction and mining vehicles . The investment also includes the expansion of the company's production capacity of steel cords for large- and large-scale radial construction machinery tires in Saga, Japan. The total investment of the two projects will reach 4.7 billion yen (approximately 382 million pounds).
The plan calls for the expansion of the production capacity of the Kitakyushu plant to approximately 20 tons/day, and to approximately 165 tons/day in the first half of 2014. Prior to this, Bridgestone had planned to build a large and super large-scale radial engineering machinery tire factory in Aiken County, South Carolina, which is expected to start production in the first half of 2014.
