Recently, a suspected fertilizer incident occurred in the subordinate counties of Luoyang, but when the relevant agencies identified the compound biuret target, they encountered a problem: because the current national standard did not explicitly specify the biuret content, the test results could not be used as an event characterization. In response, the drafter of national standards for compound fertilizers said in an interview with reporters recently that due to the immature technology research, the conditions for formulating compound biuret indexes are not yet available.

It is understood that the fatal event in Luoyang was caused by a compound fertilizer produced by a company in Suizhou, Hubei Province. After the local farmers used the fertilizer, large areas such as peanuts, sweet potatoes, and cotton were burned. The root cause of the incident involved multiple townships and the direct economic loss was estimated to be as much as 200,000 yuan.

After the accident, a senior agronomist of the local agricultural department highly suspected that the chloride fertilizer, heavy metal, or biuret in the compound fertilizer exceeded the standard, but when the biuret index was detected, relevant departments and related distributors encountered trouble. Although the product supervision and inspection institute of Henan Province issued a report on the detection of biuret afterwards, the test results cannot be used as a basis for the accident, and this has led to difficulties in the division of responsibilities.

It is understood that national standard GB15063-2009 compound fertilizer on the issue involving biuret, there are two important expressions: First, the mass fraction of the second pulse to meet the requirements of the supply and demand sides; the second is to contain urea nitrogen The product should be marked on the packaging container with the following warning: "With biuret, improper use may cause damage to the crop." In addition, the compound fertilizer national standard did not explicitly limit the content of biuret, which means that if the manufacturer did not agree, the testing department could not conclude whether the biuret content was qualified.

Ma Youhua, deputy dean of the Anhui Agricultural University’s College of Resources and Resources, said in an interview with reporters that there is indeed a gap in the biuret target regulations for the current compound fertilizer national standard. He said that the excessive biuret is one of the important factors that cause crops to be fattened. Biuret is mainly derived from compound fertilizers containing urea nitrogen. In recent years, with the development of new manufacturing techniques for high-tower spray granulation and other compound fertilizers, biuret in urea may be re-released at high temperatures. If it is not handled properly, biuret in urea may be released again and become an important source of causing fertilizer damage.

On June 14, Zhang Minghong, the main drafter of the current national standards for compound fertilizers, said in an interview with reporters that although the urea national standard clearly defines the biuret index, it is difficult to comprehensively use the urea standard for the compound biuret index. It is the lack of research on the effect of biuret contained in compound fertilizers on the growth of crops in the agricultural sector. There is still lack of technical support for the determination of specific values.

Zhang Minghong also stated that although the current national standards for compound fertilizers do not quantify the specific value of biuret, the concept of biuret was introduced for the first time in compound fertilizers, and the above two related regulations were added, in order to prevent shrinkage as much as possible.
