Employees involved in Daimler’s test exhaust emissions have been suspended

According to foreign media reports, a case involving the use of monkeys as an emission test has recently attracted widespread industry attention. On Tuesday, the related personnel of the Volkswagen Group were also suspended and investigated. Daimler said yesterday that one of the persons involved in the group was also suspended, and hired an external legal company to investigate the case.

The New York Times reported on Friday that Volkswagen had used 10 monkeys in the US lab to inhale the exhaust emissions of Volkswagen Beetle diesel vehicles in the US laboratory in 2014 to prove that the environmental technology of German diesel vehicles is enough to make exhaust emissions almost unhealthy.

It is reported that the European Transport Industry Environment and Health Federation (EUGT), established by the Volkswagen Group, Daimler and the BMW Group, is responsible for testing. The purpose of the establishment of the organization is mainly to counter the opinion of the World Health Organization that diesel exhaust may cause cancer.

According to EUGT's convention, the laboratory in New Mexico, USA, exposed the monkeys under the exhaust of the Volkswagen Beetle. The 10 monkeys used for the test were locked into a sealed small chamber to watch cartoons for four hours each time. According to the transport list obtained by the “Photograph”, the ten long-eared macaques were imported from China at a price of 3,500 euros each. The incident has caused public outrage and the Merkel government has also been asked to give a statement on this matter this week.

Daimler repeatedly stressed that the group was very shocked to use monkeys for emission tests. Daimler said: "The Daimler management committee decided to suspend the employee involved. It is reported that the employee was a member of the EUGT committee.

Daimler did not have an impact on the experiment, but has already conducted a full investigation of the incident and hired an external legal company to take charge of the investigation. The EUGT was established in 2007 but it was dissolved last year and it has not been able to respond to this issue.
