Xiangyang elderly obsession draw maps by walking to draw the entire city map publishing

After he retired, he couldn't wear it, but he was obsessed with drawing a map. Without professional skills, he used his feet to measure and paint with a pen. In the past two years, he has been walking through the streets of the city. A few days ago, 68-year-old Yang Xiuqing personally drawn map of Xiangyang City, officially published.

Yang Xiuqing loved maps since childhood. Although he had not studied mapping, he was extremely sensitive to roads and place names. In 1992 and 2001, he successively participated in the compilation of traffic maps in Xiangyang City. After retirement, Yang Xiuqing found that there were many mistakes in the maps circulating on the market. He had singled out 12 questions on a map.

This made Yang Xiuqing very touched. He thinks that the map is a compass for citizens and tourists to travel. It is a true historical record of urban development. So many mistakes have affected the image of the city and brought inconvenience to the public and tourists. Since then, he has had his own idea of ​​drawing a map of the city.

It's easy to say it and it's hard to do it. Since 2010, Yang Xiuqing has started tedious drawing work. He first found plans for the city's 10-year plan from the City Planning Bureau, referenced satellite imagery, and conducted field trips to urban roads.

In the process of drawing, he walked through every corner of the city, returned home after each visit, and he would start his work at the first time. The sketch was first drawn with a pencil, and from the conversion scale to the determined position, from the main street to the branch line, after a series of corrections and improvements, the draft was basically completed.

In January of this year, Yang Xiuqing’s “Map of Xiangyang City's Whole City” was formally published and applied for a patent. Asked why obsessed with the map, Yang Xiuqing said: "I just want to accurately display the city image of Xiangyang."
