Although the Beijing Auto Show has reached an unprecedented scale, a closer look reveals that several renowned international brands are still missing from the event, which has left some fans feeling a bit disappointed. Ferrari, the iconic supercar brand, holds a special place in the hearts of enthusiasts. It made appearances at the 2002 Beijing International Auto Show and the 2003 Shanghai International Auto Show, drawing large crowds each time. However, this year, Ferrari was notably absent from the Beijing event, causing a wave of disappointment among its loyal followers.
Maserati, another prestigious brand under the same family as Ferrari, is known for its distinctive coupes that stand out globally. At the Ferrari showroom in Beijing, Maserati and Ferrari were displayed side by side, with the popular Chinese star Ren Xianqi invited to speak about the brand.
Lotus, a famous British sports car manufacturer, made its debut at the Shanghai International Auto Show last year. Despite lacking basic features like air conditioning and power steering, Lotus delivers pure driving pleasure, offering an exaggerated style that is sure to turn heads on the road.
Renault, once a major French automaker, has recently merged with the Nissan-Renault Alliance. At the Beijing Auto Show, only Nissan-branded vehicles and SUVs were on display, while Renault itself was not represented. However, the impressive lineup of Renault trucks shown at the Agricultural Exhibition Hall somewhat compensated for this absence.
Opel, a well-known German brand in China, has long been popular due to models like the Weida, Zafira, and Omega, which were imported years ago. Its reputation for quality and affordability has made it a favorite among Chinese consumers.
Porsche, a legendary German sports car brand, has been available in China for many years. There are at least two major dealers in Beijing, and models like the 911 and Cayenne can be found in the Yizhuang Development Zone showroom.
Rover, a British luxury car brand, entered the Chinese market for the first time this March. It introduced the Rover and MG sports cars, with prices exceeding 500,000 yuan. However, it failed to capitalize on the popularity of the Beijing Auto Show, which was a missed opportunity in terms of marketing strategy.
Smart, a small yet smart brand under Mercedes-Benz, is loved worldwide for its compact design and user-friendly controls. Although it hasn't officially launched in China, a few Smart cars have entered the market through unofficial channels, priced over 400,000 yuan.
Bugatti, originally an Italian luxury sports car brand, was acquired by Volkswagen Group in 1998. The newly launched Bugatti Veyron costs 1.5 million Deutschmarks, making it three times more expensive than a Ferrari and currently the most expensive car in the world. As a result, it's rare to see one at any auto show.
Pontiac, a brand under General Motors, is a classic American brand that isn’t sold in the Asia-Pacific region. Therefore, it’s not available in China, and it seems that GM may not have prioritized its participation in the Beijing Auto Show.
