In the manufacturing industry, significant transformations are taking place. The global pandemic and the resulting economic instability have exposed vulnerabilities across the entire manufacturing ecosystem. As a result, manufacturers have had to quickly adapt and rethink their supply chains. When combined with rising customer expectations, a growing skills gap, and the rapid pace of technological change, these challenges have left many feeling uncertain about the future.
Yet, despite these difficulties—or perhaps because of them—manufacturing is still expanding globally. From constraints, innovation emerges.
Over the past few years, one thing has become clear: to take advantage of this growth and remain competitive, manufacturers must embrace digital technologies. Cloud computing, automation, and artificial intelligence (AI) offer companies the chance not only to manage but to thrive in the face of uncertainty.
At Autodesk, we've always been at the forefront of major technology shifts. Fusion was launched 10 years ago with the vision of bringing together the traditionally isolated product design and manufacturing processes. We continue to invest in making that vision a reality. We have integrated design, simulation, electronics, manufacturing, and factory operations into a single, fluid environment for businesses of all sizes—and we're not stopping there.
Last year, we introduced our Fusion Industry Cloud. Built on our Design and Make Platform, this end-to-end, connected solution unifies people, data, technologies, and workflows from product design through to shop floor operations.
**Fusion Industry Cloud: A Powerful Solution to Streamline Entire Design and Manufacturing Workflows**
Fusion transforms how organizations design and manufacture by eliminating barriers created by disconnected tools that hinder information flow between teams. As the first platform to integrate CAD, CAM, CAE, and PCB design capabilities, and connect PLM, PDM, and MES systems, Fusion streamlines processes across the entire product development and manufacturing lifecycle.
Traditionally, manufacturers used multiple tools throughout different stages of product development, requiring constant handoffs between teams. With Fusion, everything comes together. Changes made in one workflow are instantly reflected everywhere, ensuring no one works with outdated models. This saves time and reduces headaches.
Autodesk’s data model, the core of Fusion, makes this possible. By leveraging our cloud-based data model, customers can automate and streamline their workflows. Autodesk AI uses the same cloud data to eliminate repetitive tasks, allowing people to focus on more creative and valuable work.
Today, data flows between Revit and Inventor, Inventor and Fusion, and even between Inventor and AutoCAD. And with our Autodesk data model APIs, partners and third-party developers can also build for Fusion.
**AI from the Design Studio to the Shop Floor**
Fusion continues to harness the power of AI across every phase of the product development lifecycle. It's part of our DNA. We were the first to introduce generative design for manufacturing in Fusion over six years ago. Now, we’re unlocking new opportunities to automate repetitive tasks, analyze shop floor operations, and enhance creativity using AI.
Recently, Autodesk acquired BlankAI, bringing us cutting-edge generative AI technology that supports industrial designers by enabling them to create 3D concepts in milliseconds. This technology will debut in our automotive design studio tools, drawing from a company's past work to rapidly generate new concepts that align with existing design styles and guidelines.
Another key feature coming to Fusion is Automated Drawings, which will allow users to translate 3D models into fully dimensioned 2D drawings with just a click. This will save engineers up to 80% of their time spent on documentation, a task that often adds little value.
Additionally, Fusion now supports automated toolpaths through the CloudNC CAM Assist Automation Add-in. This tool helps reduce programming times by up to 80%, improving efficiency and productivity.
**Expanding Functionality Through Partnerships and Acquisitions**
We’re excited to announce new features that enhance Fusion’s value and improve design and manufacturing workflows.
- **Cadence**: We're working with Cadence, a leader in electronic systems design tools, to integrate their PCB design capabilities directly into Fusion, enabling seamless data flow in both directions.
- **Acquisition of FlexSim**: Autodesk has acquired FlexSim, a provider of discrete event simulation technology that helps optimize production processes. This integration brings powerful simulation tools into the Fusion ecosystem, enhancing factory planning and operation.
- **Configurations**: The new configurations feature in Fusion allows for the creation of multiple product variants early in the development cycle without the overhead of managing multiple files. Changes are stored in a single cloud database, making them faster to load and easier to manage.
**Rivian Gains a Competitive Edge**
This new way of working is already giving companies like Rivian a competitive edge. Rivian used Fusion for rapid design and prototyping, Revit for facility design, and Autodesk Alias and VRED for immersive virtual design reviews. By leveraging the cloud to connect data across the organization, Rivian increased operational efficiency, agility, and creativity.
**An Increasingly Powerful Fusion Offering**
Fusion is more capable and valuable than ever before. We are adjusting the pricing of Fusion and its extensions to reflect the added value and customer feedback. For full details, visit the Fusion Blog. As always, we are committed to delivering the best design and manufacturing solutions at unmatched value.
These are just a few of the updates we’re sharing at AU. To learn more about how we’re building the Fusion Industry Cloud to empower your manufacturing teams, join us for our keynotes, theater talks, and classes.
