Autodesk BIM 360 Design, a key component of the Autodesk Construction Cloud, continues to evolve by introducing vital features and services. One notable addition is a brand-new data center located in Europe, designed to offer primary storage for project data. Additionally, BIM 360 Design now integrates with Collaboration for Plant 3D, enhancing the capabilities for plant designers and engineers. These tools are used across more than 150 countries, supporting around 40,000 projects, enabling AEC professionals to collaborate seamlessly in real-time, whether within their organization or across different companies and disciplines.
The introduction of the European data center reflects the growing global demand for BIM 360 Design and underscores the need for increased flexibility in where customer data is stored. "The rapid expansion in the number of BIM 360 Design cloud collaboration users over the past two years highlights the escalating complexity of projects and the teams involved," noted Nicolas Mangon, Vice President of Autodesk's AEC business strategy and marketing. "In these unprecedented times, maintaining project continuity and ensuring team flexibility is crucial, allowing teams to stay productive no matter where or when they work."
Interestingly, since the start of Q1FY20, the number of BIM 360 Design subscribers in Europe has nearly doubled, and globally, the creation of new projects in BIM 360 Design surged by about 350% after work-from-home measures were implemented in mid-February. As part of its global response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Autodesk is offering BIM 360 Design for Revit free of charge until May 31, 2020, through its Extended Access Program.
"Efficiency is at the heart of our design process, so we’ve made cloud-based collaboration a cornerstone of our practice," stated Alex Mortiboys, Head of BIM at Dutch architecture firm OMA. "With the assurance of a European data center, we can confidently extend our use of BIM 360 Design to our clients in Europe and beyond. This move will enhance our ability to provide greater efficiency and transparency to our clients."
Beyond the European data center, BIM 360 Design now offers a connection with the AutoCAD Plant 3D toolset. Joining Revit and Civil 3D in the cloud, Collaboration for Plant 3D allows plant designers and engineers to manage access permissions more effectively. It also facilitates secure file sharing and enhances cross-disciplinary and cross-organizational collaboration across different time zones.
"Integrating AutoCAD Plant 3D into the BIM 360 platform creates a unified space for all work-in-progress data," said Dave Reed, Technology Manager at Black & Veatch. "This simplifies access for our global project teams and boosts internal and external collaboration without the need for complex IT systems." Black & Veatch's journey of digital transformation has been significantly supported by its partnership with Autodesk.
