Autodesk BIM 360 Design, which is a key component of Autodesk Construction Cloud, continues to evolve by introducing important updates and services. One significant addition is a brand-new data center located in Europe, designed specifically to serve as the primary storage for project data. Additionally, BIM 360 Design has integrated with Collaboration for Plant 3D, further enhancing its capabilities. With operations spanning over 150 countries and supporting nearly 40,000 projects, BIM 360 Design empowers architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals to collaborate seamlessly in real-time, regardless of their physical location—whether within their organization or with external partners and different disciplines.
The introduction of the European data center underscores the growing global adoption of BIM 360 Design and reflects the increasing demand among Autodesk customers for greater flexibility regarding where their project data is stored.
Nicolas Mangon, Vice President of Autodesk’s AEC Business Strategy and Marketing, commented, “The rapid expansion of BIM 360 Design cloud collaboration users over the past couple of years highlights the rising complexity of projects and the teams involved. In these unprecedented times, maintaining project continuity and providing teams with the flexibility to work effectively from anywhere is more crucial than ever.â€
Interestingly, the number of BIM 360 Design subscribers in Europe has nearly doubled since the start of the first quarter of fiscal year 2020. Globally, the rate of new project creation in BIM 360 Design surged by approximately 350% after work-from-home arrangements became widespread in mid-February. As part of its global response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Autodesk has made BIM 360 Design for Revit available for free until May 31, 2020, through its Extended Access Program.
At Dutch architecture firm Office of Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), Alex Mortiboys, Head of BIM, shared, “Our commitment to driving efficiency in our design processes has led us to prioritize cloud-based collaboration. The assurance of having a European data center strengthens our ability to recommend BIM 360 Design to both public and private clients across Europe and beyond. This move not only enhances our capacity to deliver efficient and transparent outcomes but also strengthens client trust."
Another notable update is the integration of Collaboration for Plant 3D with BIM 360 Design. This addition joins Revit and Civil 3D in the cloud, allowing plant designers and engineers to better manage access permissions. It also facilitates more secure file sharing and fosters effective cross-disciplinary and multi-organizational collaboration, regardless of time zones.
Dave Reed, Technology Manager at Black & Veatch, remarked, “With the integration of AutoCAD Plant 3D, the BIM 360 platform now serves as a centralized hub for all work-in-progress data. This simplifies access for our global project teams, enhancing both internal and external collaboration without the need for specialized IT systems. Our partnership with Autodesk has been pivotal throughout our digital transformation journey.â€
