Autodesk’s Emma Stewart Honored with a Seat on the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) Advisory Council

Emma Stewart leads Autodesk's Sustainability Solutions team, dedicated to making sustainable design accessible, insightful, and cost-efficient for the millions of engineering and design professionals who rely on Autodesk's tools. Her vision has always been to integrate sustainability into everyday workflows, ensuring that eco-conscious choices are both practical and impactful. During her tenure at Autodesk, Emma founded the Sustainable Design Living Lab program. This initiative leverages the company's own facilities to test and refine software solutions aimed at greening existing buildings. Additionally, she spearheaded the Sustainable Operations program, which earned top honors from the Carbon Disclosure Project. Emma also co-developed Autodesk's Corporate Finance Approach to Climate-stabilizing Targets (C-FACT) methodology—a transparent, science-based framework for setting greenhouse gas reduction goals that align with business needs. Recently, Emma has been appointed to the Advisory Council of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB). SASB is a critical organization focused on establishing standards for corporate disclosure of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors. As part of this council, Emma will play a pivotal role in advocating for greater transparency in how companies report their sustainability efforts. This work is especially timely given the growing recognition among businesses and investors alike that climate change presents both significant risks and unprecedented opportunities. Consider these statistics: A report by CDP found that 77% of public companies face material risks due to climate change, yet 78% view it as a business opportunity. Meanwhile, 98% of cities identified climate change as a major risk factor. Investors are increasingly pressing companies for clear and consistent disclosures about their ESG practices, but current reporting often falls short. Corporate sustainability data tends to appear in separate annual reports rather than being integrated into SEC filings like the Form 10-K. This inconsistency makes it challenging for investors to compare companies or fully assess their exposure to ESG-related risks and rewards. Enter SASB, which is addressing this challenge by developing industry-specific sustainability accounting standards for more than 80 sectors. These standards aim to standardize ESG disclosures within mandatory SEC filings, offering investors a clearer picture of a company's long-term resilience. By using SASB standards, businesses can better manage their sustainability priorities while improving alignment with regulatory requirements under Regulation S-K. For investors, SASB provides a way to evaluate companies' ESG performance and allocate capital more effectively. At Autodesk, Emma continues to drive innovation through products like its Sustainability Solutions suite, which empowers engineers, architects, and designers to embed sustainability into their projects seamlessly. The company also offers C-FACT tools—free resources for cities and corporations to establish science-backed climate goals. These tools reflect Emma's commitment to bridging the gap between sustainability ideals and actionable strategies. As someone deeply engaged with both technology and policy, Emma embodies the intersection where progress meets responsibility. Her leadership extends beyond her day job; she serves as a thought leader in shaping how we think about sustainability in the digital age. It’s inspiring to see how one person’s dedication can ripple outward, influencing entire industries toward a more sustainable future.
