So I was cruising down I65 last night near Crown Point when something caught my eye—a house completely engulfed in flames off the side of the road. It looked like it had already been abandoned. As I drove closer, following the thick plumes of smoke, I stumbled upon something pretty unusual. Turns out, it was the Crown Point (IN) Fire Department conducting a controlled burn on a structure they'd been using for training over the past three days. Talk about realistic practice!
I couldn’t resist pulling over to snap some pictures and even got a bit of video footage. The intensity of the flames was incredible, and the firefighters were clearly in their element. It’s not every day you get to witness such an intense scene unfold right before your eyes.
Here are a few shots I took:

For those interested, there’s also a short video clip I managed to record. Watching these professionals work is both humbling and inspiring. They truly know what they’re doing.

It’s always fascinating to document moments like this, especially when it comes to public safety and preparedness. There’s just something about seeing how firefighters train under real-world conditions—it gives you a whole new appreciation for their dedication and skill.
