The Daily Herald recently featured a short article about Wheeling firefighters and staff teaming up with Operation Warm to provide free winter coats to children who can't afford them. This heartwarming initiative brought joy to many young lives over the weekend.
On Saturday, at Station 24, which serves as the fire department headquarters, Wheeling firefighters distributed 100 U.S.-made winter coats to students in need from Wheeling Township Elementary District 21. The event was organized by the union, with significant support from department leaders and school officials. According to Firefighter Emmett Gribbens, the president of Wheeling Firefighters Local 3079, the initial aim was to raise enough funds to buy 80 coats. However, thanks to generous donations and community involvement, they surpassed their target, ensuring more children could stay warm this winter.
The photos captured by Larry Shapiro truly capture the spirit of the day—smiling faces and grateful hearts. It’s inspiring to see how such a simple act of kindness can make a huge difference in the lives of these children. The success of this project highlights the power of collaboration between local organizations and communities working together for a common cause.
These images remind us of the importance of giving back and supporting those around us. If you or anyone you know is interested in contributing to similar initiatives, there are always opportunities to get involved either through volunteering or financial contributions. Every little bit helps create a warmer world for everyone!
