The steam cracker of Yangzi Petrochemical-BASF Co., Ltd. successfully resumed operation in mid-June after the regular overhaul was successfully completed as planned. The existing nine downstream installations were all restarted during this period.
During the shutdown of the steam cracker, the ethylene plant expansion will continue and the capacity will increase from 600,000 tons/year to 740,000 tons/year. The expansion of the cracker is an important part of the US$1.4 billion project of Sinopec and BASF. The project includes the expansion of a steam cracker, the construction of 10 new chemical installations and the expansion of 3 existing installations. The project was launched in September 2009.
