Outer PE Inner EP Plastic-Coated Composite Steel Pipe
Outer PE inner EP plastic-coated steel pipes are professionally manufactured and sold. These composite steel pipes have no restrictions on pipe size, and the lining thickness can be customized according to specific needs. Depending on the corrosive environment, different lining thicknesses can be selected, and the length can reach up to 6-12 meters. The nominal diameter of these coated composite steel pipes is typically between 0.5 and 1 mm. The inner surface is smooth, which reduces friction and wear, minimizes fluid loss, increases flow capacity, and helps save energy. In recent years, corrosion-resistant spiral steel pipes have been widely used in water supply and drainage systems, potable water distribution, and fire protection pipelines. While hot-dip galvanized steel pipes are commonly used for fire protection systems, many residential communities, hotels, and office buildings are now switching to internal and external epoxy powder-coated steel pipes. These pipes offer a clean, durable, and aesthetically pleasing solution, making them a key product in modern industries.
The outer PE and inner EP plastic-coated steel pipes provide numerous advantages. The epoxy powder coating is tough, waterproof, non-toxic, and has excellent adhesion to the pipe surface. It also offers strong rust resistance and moisture protection, thanks to high-quality raw materials. The coating is highly resistant to mechanical damage, abrasion, and impact, and it features a high solid content with a thick film layer. The molecular structure of the epoxy resin contains active epoxy groups that can react with various curing agents to form a three-dimensional network structure, making the coating insoluble and infusible. Epoxy powder coatings are one of the earliest thermosetting powders and remain the most widely used in the industry, especially in electrostatic spraying applications. Epoxy-phenolic powder coatings, on the other hand, are known for their superior chemical resistance and are often used for anti-corrosion purposes.
Thermoplastic powder coatings include polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, and others. Each has its own unique properties and limitations. Thermosetting plastics, however, offer better leveling and wetting properties due to their lower molecular weight, allowing them to adhere strongly to the steel pipe body and produce a smoother coating surface. Commonly used thermosetting resins include epoxy, phenolic, and amino resins. The coating thickness typically ranges from 100 to 500 microns, with an average of 350 microns. These pipes are hygienic, non-toxic, and resistant to microbial growth, ensuring the quality of the transported fluids. They also exhibit excellent weather resistance, making them suitable for harsh environments like deserts and saline-alkali areas.
When processing pipe threads, proper cooling should be applied during the cutting process. For flange connections, on-site measurements and single-line drawings can be created, followed by coating and plastic lining before transportation to the site for installation. Non-coated, plastic-lined steel pipes can be assembled on-site using fittings and flange welding, then sent back for coating and lining treatment before final installation. Grooved plastic-coated pipe fittings are preferred, and grooves should be made using a rolling groove machine, ensuring the depth meets standard requirements.
