The Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District is a key part of MABAS Division 10, operating from three fire stations. With a long history, the department has been using E-ONE equipment for many years. Currently, they are equipped with one E-ONE quint, three E-ONE engines, and two E-ONE ambulances. Over the past decade, the department has gradually transitioned from its original lime green color scheme to red, though two older vehicles still retain the original look.
The district covers parts of Darien and Woodridge, as well as some unincorporated areas of Downers Grove and Westmont. The department operates with both full-time and part-time firefighters, and in 2009 alone, they responded to over 2,450 emergency calls. This level of activity highlights the critical role the Darien-Woodridge Fire Department plays in the region’s public safety.
Station 1, located in Darien, serves as the headquarters for the department and also houses the Southwest United Fire Districts Fire Training Academy. This academy is an important resource for training firefighters from multiple districts, offering specialized programs and hands-on experience. The academy itself operates three rigs, supporting both local and regional training needs.
