On Tuesday afternoon, June 4, 2019, Prospect Heights firefighters responded to a one-car motor vehicle accident on Palatine Road, in the express lanes just west of Wolf Road. A brand new Cadillac SUV had veered off the road and become stuck in an area where the curbing had been removed for replacement. The vehicle was positioned precariously along the embankment, leaving the driver stranded inside.
The driver, who was alone in the car, did not report any injuries but was unable to exit the vehicle on their own. Firefighters quickly arrived on scene and assisted the individual in safely exiting the SUV. Once out, the driver was evaluated by paramedics to ensure there were no hidden injuries. No serious harm was reported, and the situation appeared to be under control.
In addition to the incident, the newly deployed Cadillac SUV belonging to Prospect Heights Battalion 9 was recently put into service and was seen in several photos taken at the scene. These images captured the aftermath of the crash as well as the fire department’s response efforts.
The fire department worked alongside local towing services, including Gene's Towing, which was seen on site assisting with the recovery of the damaged vehicle. Photos from the event show the extent of the accident and the quick action taken by emergency personnel.
Several images from the scene were shared, offering a visual record of the event. These include photos of the wrecked Cadillac, the fire department in action, and the tow truck working to clear the road. All images were captured by photographer Larry Shapiro.
This incident highlights the importance of emergency preparedness and the swift response of first responders in ensuring public safety. It also serves as a reminder of the dangers that can arise from even minor traffic incidents.
