A visit to the CFD

On a recent visit to Chicago Fire Department Engine 46’s station, Dan McInerney shared some fascinating glimpses into the history and culture of this iconic firehouse. He began with a close-up of the plaque at the front of the building—three names that may ring a bell for those familiar with the city's fire department history. Inside, he captured images of the beautifully decorated bench, a small but meaningful detail that adds character to the space. A memorial plaque also caught his eye, honoring those who have served at Engine 46 over the years. Another photo highlights the logos of both the Chicago Fire Department and the FDNY, specifically for Engine 46, showcasing the connection between these two renowned fire departments. Finally, a shot of Engine 46 on the apron gives a sense of the station’s active presence in the community. And what would a trip downtown be without a stop at Engine 98’s historic house? The old brick structure still stands as a testament to its long and storied past. A nearby sign marks the 100th anniversary of the house in 2002, reminding visitors of the rich heritage that continues to shape the fire department today.
