LAS VEGAS, November 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — At its annual flagship user event kicking off today, Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK), welcomed thousands of architects, designers, engineers, and digital artists from across the globe to explore the future of making things. This year marks the 25th edition of Autodesk University (AU), and it continues to be a carbon-neutral event for the third consecutive year. Over the next few days, nearly 10,000 participants will gather here to learn, network, and discover innovative methods to create buildings, infrastructure, products, and entertainment, as these industries become increasingly interconnected.

In his inaugural keynote speech as Autodesk's CEO, Andrew Anagnost will present an optimistic view of work in the era of automation. He'll explain how Autodesk plans to assist its customers in achieving more while leaving a smaller environmental footprint.
"The new wave of automation will inevitably lead to disruptions, but technologies like artificial intelligence and robotics will generate more job opportunities and drive economic growth than many skeptics anticipate," said Anagnost.
To align with Anagnost's vision, the company will unveil multiple initiatives aimed at equipping people worldwide with new skills and preparing them for the jobs and industries of tomorrow. (For more details, check Autodesk's newsroom tomorrow.)
During Wednesday's keynote, Senior Vice President Amy Bunszel will discuss how customers can leverage Autodesk's core products today to take practical steps towards the future of making things. She’ll also highlight the company's efforts in supporting this transition. On Thursday, Autodesk executives will offer a sneak peek into the future of Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) and Manufacturing. Special guest customers, including Kalitta Motorsports, Skanska, and Van Wijnen, will join the conversation. These companies are using Autodesk technologies to innovate, challenge traditional practices, and enhance their competitiveness.
New developments in Autodesk’s industry collections and cloud platforms, such as Fusion 360 and BIM 360, will also be announced. Additionally, Autodesk will reveal several partnerships this week, including a collaboration with Dropbox leveraging the Forge developer platform. (Stay tuned for detailed updates on Autodesk’s In The Fold blog.)
Throughout the event, AU attendees will witness how their peers are utilizing transformative technologies like generative design, augmented and virtual reality, robotics, and additive manufacturing. A new addition this year is the AU Theater, hosting eight TED-style talks from industry innovators covering topics such as Machine Intelligence, Factories of the Future, and Climate Change Solutions.
Beyond the keynotes, hundreds of hands-on workshops and networking opportunities await participants. The conference features interactive exhibits showcasing the future of making things, including additively manufactured maritime vessels and parts, construction drones equipped for high-resolution reality capture, generatively designed aircraft parts, entire airport layouts, factory floors and office furniture designed using virtual and augmented reality, and even a fully functional Hyperloop pod.
This year’s AU exhibit hall layout was created using Project Discover from Autodesk Research, which utilized generative design to optimize the attendee experience. The same software was recently employed in the interior design of Autodesk's new office space in Toronto’s MaRS Discovery District.
AU’s carbon footprint is being offset this year through a partnership with BioLite, the manufacturer of the ultra-clean wood-burning HomeStove, which generates electricity from the heat of the flame. Thanks to smart design aided by Autodesk simulation software, each HomeStove reduces emissions by 90% and cuts fuel consumption in half. By purchasing BioLite carbon credits, Autodesk enabled the production and sale of 10,957 HomeStoves in Uganda and India, further contributing to the 113,000 tons of CO2 BioLite has offset so far.
This year’s flagship Autodesk University event in Las Vegas is supported by Diamond sponsors Dell and HP.
