LAS VEGAS, November 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ – As the curtain rises on its annual signature gathering, Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK), greeted thousands of architects, designers, engineers, and digital artists from across the globe at the 2017 edition of Autodesk University. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the event and its third consecutive year of running carbon-neutral operations. Held here in Las Vegas, Autodesk University (AU) attracts close to 10,000 participants eager to learn, connect, and discover innovative approaches to constructing buildings, infrastructure, products, and entertainment as these sectors continue to merge.
The conference kicked off with Andrew Anagnost, Autodesk's newly appointed CEO, delivering his inaugural keynote address. Anagnost painted a hopeful picture of the future of work in the era of automation and outlined how Autodesk plans to empower its clients to achieve greater efficiency while minimizing adverse environmental impacts.
"The new wave of automation might cause disruptions, but technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotics hold immense potential to generate employment opportunities and drive economic expansion," Anagnost remarked confidently.
In alignment with Anagnost's vision, the company announced multiple initiatives aimed at equipping individuals worldwide with the skills needed to thrive in tomorrow's job market. (For further details, check Autodesk's official press release tomorrow.)
During Wednesday's keynote, Senior Vice President Amy Bunszel explored how current Autodesk products can serve as stepping stones toward the future of manufacturing, along with the company's efforts in facilitating this transition. On Thursday, executive leaders provided a sneak peek into the future of Architecture, Engineering & Construction (AEC) and Manufacturing. Featured guest speakers included representatives from Kalitta Motorsports, Skanska, and Van Wijnen, all leveraging Autodesk technologies to reinvent traditional practices and enhance competitiveness.
Attendees also learned about upcoming enhancements to Autodesk’s industry collections, including Fusion 360 and BIM 360. Additionally, the company unveiled several partnerships this week, including a collaboration with Dropbox powered by the Forge developer platform. (Stay tuned for detailed updates on Autodesk's In The Fold blog throughout the week.)
Throughout the conference, participants witnessed firsthand how their peers are harnessing transformative technologies such as generative design, augmented and virtual reality, robotics, and additive manufacturing. A highlight of this year’s event was the AU Theater, hosting eight TED-style presentations from industry pioneers covering topics like machine intelligence, future factories, and climate change solutions.
Beyond the keynotes, the event featured hundreds of hands-on workshops and networking sessions. Interactive exhibits brought cutting-edge ideas to life, showcasing examples such as 3D-printed maritime vessels, construction drones equipped for high-resolution mapping, generatively designed aircraft components, and even a fully operational Hyperloop pod.
This year’s exhibit hall layout was itself a testament to innovation, having been generatively designed using Project Discover from Autodesk Research to optimize visitor flow. The same software has recently been employed in designing the interior layout of Autodesk’s new office space in Toronto’s MaRS Discovery District.
AU’s environmental commitment remains strong, with its carbon footprint offset through a partnership with BioLite, creators of the ultra-clean HomeStove that generates electricity from waste heat. Each stove reduces emissions by 90% and cuts fuel usage in half. Thanks to Autodesk's purchase of BioLite carbon credits, 10,957 stoves were manufactured and sold in Uganda and India, contributing to a total reduction of 113,000 tons of CO2 to date.
This year’s flagship event in Las Vegas is proudly supported by Diamond sponsors Dell and HP.
