China's Special Purpose Vehicle Industry Development Plan Forecasts the end of the 12th Five-Year Truck Specialization rate of 70%

The Special Automobile Branch of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers has completed the “Twelfth Five-Year Development Plan for Special Purpose Vehicle Industry” in China. "Planning" predicts that during the "12th Five-Year Plan" period, China's special-purpose vehicle industry will continue to achieve healthy and rapid development. The gap between the level of product technology, the number of varieties and the R&D capability of enterprises and the developed countries will be further reduced; at the end of the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan", China Truck specialization rate will reach 70%, close to the level of developed countries.

● Great changes in the structure of the special car industry in the past 10 years

China is currently the world's largest producer and consumer of special vehicles. "Planning" shows that the annual output of China's special-purpose vehicles has exceeded 1.5 million for three consecutive years, and there are as many as 5,000 kinds of product varieties. In 2009, China produced about 1.65 million special vehicles of various types, accounting for 55.68% of the total truck production for the year. In 2000, the output of special vehicles in China was only 181,100, accounting for 26.93% of the total truck production that year. In the past 10 years, the specialization rate of trucks in China has more than doubled. At the same time, special vehicles have become the main force for China’s auto exports. In the past two years, China’s auto exports have been greatly affected by the international financial crisis. Even so, in 2009, the export of special vehicles in China still reached more than 120,000.

While the production of special vehicles in China and the specialization rate of trucks have increased significantly, the product mix is also constantly optimized according to market demand. It is understood that the composition ratio of China's heavy, medium and light special vehicles changed from 2:5:3 in 1999 to 4.3:0.9:4.8 in 2009 to “two ends”, and the development trend is very clear. In terms of technology, during the "11th Five-Year Plan" period, under the background of the country's active promotion of energy-saving and emission-reduction, special vehicles have made great progress in the development and lightweighting of new energy products.

The large number of enterprises and scattered distribution are a major feature of China's special-purpose vehicle industry. "Planning" shows that as of December 2009, the number of enterprises in China's production-specific vehicles announcement was 826. After the state promulgated the "Automotive Industry Development Policy" in 2004, more than 200 new enterprises were added.

The market concentration of the special car industry in China is still low. In 2009, the CRn index (the industry concentration rate, which refers to the total market share of the top n largest companies in the relevant market in the industry) of all types of special vehicles in China was low, among them, semi-trailer production. There are 311 enterprises, CR4 is 20.27%, 111 special dump truck manufacturers, CR4 is 23.52%, and 268 tank car manufacturers. CR4 is 23.82%.

● Industry asset restructuring will accelerate

Combined with the current status of the industry and market competition, the "planning" analysis, during the "Twelfth Five-Year" period, the development of China's special car industry will mainly show the following characteristics.

The speed of consolidation in the industry has accelerated significantly. From the policy point of view, the state encourages special-purpose vehicle companies to carry out mergers and reorganizations, the threshold for entry into the special-purpose vehicle industry of the company is gradually improved, the momentum of the domestic special-purpose vehicle industry clusters and bases everywhere is curbed, and the industry's competent departments are constantly managing the consistency of production. Increased, the trend of standardized development of the special car industry is even more pronounced. From the market point of view, the internationally-recognized specialized vehicles and parts and components companies will accelerate the pace of joint ventures and cooperation with Chinese enterprises. The cooperation will be expanded from the past single technical cooperation to capital cooperation and market cooperation; state-owned capital in the special car industry The rapid increase in the proportion of large companies and listed companies entering the special vehicle industry will further increase the production and market concentration of special vehicles.

Special car chassis, top-mounted parts companies and special vehicle OEMs are working more closely together. Sanitation vehicles have expanded from technology to sales and after-sales services. According to statistics, at present, the specialization rate for heavy-duty truck chassis in China has exceeded 70%, and the specialization rate for heavy-duty trucks for individual companies has reached 95%. In the increasingly fierce market competition, the concern of the chassis companies for the demand for special-purpose vehicles has been raised to the strategic level of the company's development, and cooperation with special-purpose vehicle companies has been carried out in various ways.

China's special car industry chain gradually improved. Under the circumstances that the special vehicle production and total demand in China have increased in volume, the special-purpose vehicle industry has been manufactured from a single product in the past and has extended to many links such as raw materials, parts and components, industrial equipment, special vehicles, sales and trade, logistics, and aftermarket. The industrial investment structure gradually diversified.

● Take the combined development path inside and outside

"Planning" pointed out that with the rapid expansion of the production capacity of China's special-purpose vehicle industry, the development of an extensional economy and seeking a breakthrough in the international market is an effective way to digest the excess capacity of China's special vehicles. Although the global economy will still be in the adjustment period during the “12th Five-Year Plan” period, with the increase in the overall cost-effectiveness of China’s special vehicles, the total export volume is expected to increase. Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Eastern Europe will continue to be important export vehicles for China’s special vehicles. market.

In contrast, domestic macroeconomic conditions and related policies have a greater impact on China's special-purpose vehicle industry. "Planning" believes that in the next few years, the total demand of China's special-purpose vehicles market will remain at a relatively high level. Vans, semi-trailers, dump trucks, tank cars will continue to be the main models of the market, and engineering transport vehicles will be on the market. The proportion of total demand will be slightly reduced, and the proportion of social basic material transportation vehicles, operation vehicles, and urban functional vehicles will continue to increase.

Based on a number of factors, the "Planning" predicts that based on the output of special vehicles in 2009, the annual growth rate of China's special vehicle production will remain around 9% between 2011 and 2015; by 2015. There will be more than 7000 kinds of special vehicle products in China. The industry's production capacity will reach 3.5 million; the annual output will reach 2.8 million, accounting for about 70% of the total truck production that year, and close to the level of developed countries.
