According to the plan, China's AP1000 self-reliance project The first two main pumps of Unit 3 of Sanmen Nuclear Power Plant will be delivered to the site by December 31, 2015 to support the installation and commissioning of the world's first AP1000 nuclear power unit. The successful completion of the main pump test also paved the way for the remaining two main pumps in Sanmen Unit 1 and the manufacturing and delivery of the other seven main AP1000 units under construction in China and the United States.
The final performance test verified that the main pump successfully operated over 1,600 hours under various operating conditions of the AP1000 nuclear power plant, including more than 600 start-stop cycles. The test and inspection was performed by Curtiss White in the Cherswick Electrical-Mechanical Division (EMD) facility in Pennsylvania.
