During the rise of the water flow, the bed is lifted and loosened, the light minerals rise faster with the water flow, and the heavy minerals rise slowly; when the water flow drops, the light minerals fall slowly and the heavy minerals fall faster. This way the heavy minerals tend to the bottom layer and the light minerals are in the upper layer. As the water flow continues to decrease, the bed looseness decreases and the movement of the coarse particles is hindered. Later, the bed becomes more and more tight, and only small ore particles can move downward through the gap, called " drilling motion " . The downward flow stops and the stratification stops, which is a cycle. Then the water begins to rise again and begins the second cycle. This cycle is endless. Finally, the densely-concentrated ore particles are concentrated to the bottom layer, and the low-density ore particles are located in the upper layer, and the process of layering by density is completed, as shown in FIG.
