Taihua shares: calcium carbide method PVC can be comparable with the ethylene method

Taihua Chemical's Chlor-Alkali Branch has become a key player in the domestic production of calcium carbide-based polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The company has actively introduced advanced technologies to tackle quality issues in its calcium carbide process, significantly improving product performance. Today, the quality of its PVC products is comparable to that of ethylene-based PVC. On January 4th, the company successfully launched the Luohe brand suspension PVC, which was recognized as a "National Customer Satisfaction Product" in Shanxi Province in 2007. Currently, the domestic PVC industry mainly relies on two production methods: ethylene-based and calcium carbide-based. While ethylene-based PVC facilities are large-scale, high-quality, and profitable, their production costs are highly sensitive to international oil price fluctuations and require specific infrastructure conditions. In contrast, calcium carbide-based PVC, produced through coal chemical technology, offers lower production costs and greater flexibility. With over 100 manufacturers using the calcium carbide method in central China, and given Shanxi's inland location and limited oil resources, developing calcium carbide-based PVC is the most practical choice. Taihua’s Chlor-Alkali Branch has consistently focused on technological innovation. It has implemented a DCS (Distributed Control System) in its production processes, ensuring that the overall technical level is on par with ethylene-based PVC. Over recent years, the company has expanded its calcium carbide-based PVC production capacity from 10,000 tons per year to 240,000 tons annually. To further enhance efficiency and quality, Taihua has invested in high-level technological upgrades, including a 150,000-ton/year PVC facility. Through independent research and development, as well as collaboration with domestic and international partners, the company has developed six innovative technologies. These have been directly applied in production, leading to significant improvements in conversion rates, product quality, cost reduction, and environmental safety. Additionally, Taihua is the first company in China to introduce nanotechnology into PVC production. It also employs cutting-edge control systems and design technologies for calcium carbide-based PVC, solidifying its position as a leader in the industry.
