Beiqi Lishun portal Beijing brand sprint big

"‘The situation in which BAIC held 33% of the limited shares of BAIC has become history,’ said a Beijing Auto Holding representative during an interview with this reporter on March 5. At the time of the announcement, BAIC had just completed a critical phase in its own-brand development, as Beijing Automotive Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (BAIC) was positioned as the foundation for the revival of the Beijing brand — one of BAIC’s key independent brands. On February 29, according to the 'Beijing Auto Manufacturing Factory Co., Ltd. Restructuring Framework Agreement' signed between Beijing Auto Holding and Beijing Automotive Assembly Plant (Beiqi Co., Ltd.) on December 27 of the previous year, BAIC Limited completed the industrial and commercial change of its shareholding rights. The company restructured BAIC Limited through capital increase, becoming its controlling shareholder and ending the awkward situation where BAIC Holdings wasn’t the largest shareholder despite focusing on building its own brand. In addition, Beiqi Foton officially became the largest shareholder of Beiqi Foton, and Beiqi Holding clarified the equity relationship between its two major companies, making substantial progress in its independent brand strategy. The restructuring of BAIC Limited’s shares was completed on February 29, marking the end of BAIC Holdings’ 33% limited shareholding. This move not only resolved previous ownership issues but also laid the groundwork for BAIC’s long-term brand-building efforts. Behind the scenes, Beijing Automobile Limited — often overlooked in media coverage — has been central to the success of BAIC’s own-brand strategy. In late 2006, Xu Heyi took over as head of Beiqi Holding and outlined a plan to develop BAIC Group’s independent brands. Two key brands, ‘Fukuda Automobile’ and ‘Beijing Brand,’ were identified, with Beiqi Foton and BAIC serving as their main production bases. However, at the time, Beiqi Holding wasn’t the largest shareholder of either Beiqi Foton or BAIC. This prompted a series of adjustments, leading to Beiqi Holding acquiring a majority stake in Beiqi Foton and eventually becoming the largest shareholder of BAIC after a complex asset valuation process. The rationalization of BAIC’s equity structure began more than a year ago, with the transfer of assets from Beijing Jeep (now Beijing Benz-Dyke) to BAIC. Disagreements over asset valuations delayed the process, but eventually, a framework agreement was reached, leading to the completion of industrial registration by February 29. Looking ahead, the revival of the ‘Beijing’ brand is a top priority. BAIC Research Institute is currently finalizing a concept car that will be unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show this year. According to Xu Heyi, the brand aims to launch its first self-owned sedan by 2010, with plans to expand into both economical and premium passenger cars. With the completion of its equity restructuring and the official launch of the ‘Beijing’ brand, BAIC is well on its way to establishing a strong independent vehicle platform. As part of its broader strategy, Beiqi Holding is also expanding its reach beyond Beijing, with recent rumors of potential acquisitions suggesting a nationwide expansion. These developments highlight the growing importance of BAIC in China’s automotive industry, as it moves forward with its vision of creating a globally recognized brand."
