On November 8, 2018, the Chaozhou Water Supply Hub Dam Safety Monitoring System Automation Upgrade Project was officially launched in Chaozhou. The event brought together representatives from the Chaozhou Water Supply Hub Management Office of Guangdong Province, Guangdong Provincial Keyuan Engineering Supervision Consulting Company, the Water Resources Department Dam Safety Management Center, and Hydropower Company. This project marks a significant step forward in modernizing the dam’s safety monitoring capabilities.
The Guangdong Chaozhou Water Supply Hub is strategically located near Liangxikou, where the Hanjiang River flows through, about 4 kilometers from Chaozhou City. It serves as a crucial water resource management project, designed to balance water distribution across the East, West, and Beixi regions. In addition to power generation, the hub also supports shipping and environmental protection. The project is classified as a first-class (I) project, with main structures rated at level 2. These include river sluices, power stations, ship locks, and earth dams.
In 2017, the China Government Procurement Network announced a tender for the automation upgrade of the dam safety monitoring system. The project involved four key areas: external deformation observation, seepage and vibration monitoring, mesoscopic instrument access, and the development of an automatic monitoring system. The project timeline was set for 10 months, and the contract was eventually awarded to Nanjing NARI Group.
The project scope included procurement, transportation, storage, verification, installation, and commissioning of all required monitoring instruments and automated equipment. It also involved software development, system integration, civil works, data collection, analysis, reporting, handover of facilities and data, personnel training, and ongoing maintenance. The contractor was responsible for providing all necessary materials and ensuring the successful completion of the project.

The successful implementation and commissioning of the automation upgrade have enhanced the dam’s safety monitoring capabilities, providing intelligent "eyes and ears" to ensure the safe operation of the structure. For Nanjing NARI Group, this project has further strengthened its reputation and influence in the industry.
