Autodesk expands presence in on-set production, closes acquisition of production management solution PIX

Autodesk has officially completed its acquisition of PIX, a leading production management solution. This move marks a significant step forward in expanding Autodesk’s presence during the on-set phase of media and entertainment (M&E) production. By integrating PIX into Autodesk's ecosystem, the company is making it easier to share data across the entire production pipeline, reducing inefficiencies and improving collaboration. The acquisition brings together the strong network and expertise of the PIX team with Autodesk’s robust cloud infrastructure and technological capabilities. This combination is expected to enhance customer experiences by streamlining workflows and ensuring seamless data flow between on-set operations and post-production teams. Efficiency has long been a major challenge in the M&E industry. Assets are often recreated, data is stored in incompatible formats, and critical information can get lost in complex file structures. These issues lead to rework, which costs time and money for customers. To address these challenges, Autodesk is developing Flow, an industry-specific cloud platform designed to unify data, workflows, and teams across the production pipeline. Two years ago, Autodesk began exploring ways to bridge the gap between on-set and post-production, recognizing that much of the valuable data used in filmmaking is generated on set. However, due to historical disconnects between these phases, this information often fails to reach the downstream teams, causing delays and inefficiencies. Since then, Autodesk has made significant progress with Moxion, a tool designed to create smoother connections between on-set and post-production workflows. Now, with the PIX acquisition finalized, the company is accelerating its efforts to bring more of the production process into the cloud. The integration of PIX into Flow will enable better communication between on-set teams and studio executives, fostering greater collaboration and reducing data loss. By connecting PIX’s production management tools with Flow, Autodesk is helping ensure that data flows smoothly from the set to every stakeholder involved in the production. This not only improves efficiency but also supports a more connected and transparent workflow. Learn more about PIX production management. Combining the PIX team’s deep industry knowledge with Autodesk’s resources and cloud technology will drive innovation and improve how films and TV shows are created. I’m excited to welcome the PIX team to Autodesk and look forward to working together to continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in content creation. *The above statements regarding the potential benefits of the acquisition are based on current expectations and are subject to various risks and uncertainties.
