This year, Autodesk celebrates its impact on cinema with a unique three-part ad campaign created by Ryan Reynolds’ creative agency, Maximum Effort. The series introduces viewers to the fictional yet influential figure of Otto Desćinski—a legendary Hollywood icon known as Otto Desć. Through this creative approach, the campaign highlights how Autodesk's software empowers filmmakers, artists, and creators to bring their visions to life.
Elizabeth Banks is featured in the three-part ad series that ran during the Academy Awards.
The second spot in the series gives an inside look at the influence Otto Desć has had on industry professionals, including Elizabeth Banks, Ron Perlman, and Academy Award-winning VFX Supervisor Paul Lambert. These industry leaders share their admiration for the mysterious figure, showcasing how Autodesk’s technology continues to shape the future of filmmaking.
In the final part of the campaign, the truth is revealed—Otto Desć isn’t a real person, but rather a clever representation of Autodesk itself. This campaign emphasizes how Autodesk’s design and make software empower creatives across the globe, from filmmakers to architects and engineers. The full documentary-style ad can be viewed here.

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio takes home Oscar gold
Autodesk is inspired by customers like SHADOWMACHINE, the stop-motion production company that brought Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio to life. The film, directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson, reimagines the classic tale with stunning visuals and emotional depth, highlighting the life-giving power of love.

SHADOWMACHINE created the stop-motion retelling in its Portland facility, winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, among other prestigious awards. To manage the massive amount of assets and complex workflows, the team used Autodesk ShotGrid to streamline project management and track every detail of the production.
“On Pinocchio, we had 99 different sets,†said Whitney Schmerber, Art Production Manager at SHADOWMACHINE. “Each set has hundreds of physical parts, and we have to account for all the characters and their components. For us, ShotGrid is a digital encyclopedia tracking all assets in the feature, down to the tiniest wood shavings.â€
With around 350 people working on the project, the team collaborated closely with co-director Mark Gustafson and Guillermo del Toro, while also partnering with studios in Canada and Guadalajara. Schmerber added, “ShotGrid helped us track our processes. There’s no way we could have finished Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio without it.â€
