New engine in Antioch – update

Jeff Rudolph recently shared an update about the new UST engine in Antioch. He mentioned that the new engine will be stationed at bay one, replacing the older setup. Additionally, the ALF will now be located at bay three, and the 1973 Pirsch engine has been retired from service. Attached is a picture of Antioch's Engine 1, which was manufactured by UST back in 2011 using a Spartan Metrostar chassis. This engine boasts a powerful 1,500-gallon-per-minute pump and carries 750 gallons of water. Kudos to Jeff Rudolph for capturing this fantastic image! According to The Daily Herald, Antioch is planning a special "wet-down" ceremony for their new engine on May 29th. This event is steeped in tradition, harking back to the days when horse-drawn fire engines were the norm. During these ceremonies, the wheels of the new engine are traditionally wetted down to preserve the wooden spokes, followed by a symbolic push-in of the new vehicle while retiring the old one. Fire Chief John Nixon explained that the department is embracing a new tradition as they celebrate their upcoming centennial next March. The new engine will sport a classic black-over-red color scheme, which is quite popular in the Chicagoland area. Furthermore, the truck will feature a newly designed emblem for the Antioch Fire Department. For those interested, the full article can be read online. Special thanks to Chris for sharing this news! Interestingly, the last "wet-down" ceremony took place in Buffalo Grove. Also worth noting is that Engine 2121, a 2001 American LaFrance Eagle, has been relocated to Station 3. Meanwhile, the 1973 Pirsch engine found a new home with a private collector. Station 1 in Antioch is also home to the Lake County Quad 2 Rehab 2 Support Unit. This particular unit is a 2004 Ford F550 Supreme Body model, serving as the county's second rehab unit. The community is invited to attend the upcoming ceremony on May 29th at 7 p.m. at Fire Station 1, located at 835 Holbek Drive. It promises to be an exciting event filled with history and tradition.
