The site of the subsidence accident was close to the construction site of Nanjing Metro Line 3. Some citizens said that the subsidence accident was related to subway construction.

At 12 o'clock noon, the Nanjing Metro quickly responded to the official Weibo, saying that the cause of the accident was "preliminarily determined to be caused by quicksand." The full text of the Weibo is as follows: "At 11 am, local subsidence occurred near the basement pit of Metro Line 3 Daxinggong Station. Initially judged to be caused by quicksand, it is actively being backfilled, causing no casualties and not affecting the normal operation of Metro Line 2."

At 3:40 in the afternoon, the Nanjing Metro responded again, saying that the primary cause of the accident was the leakage of water at the joint between the wall and the line of the second line, where the stratum was medium dense fine sand and was located in the Qinhuai River. Ancient roads, poor geological conditions, causing soil erosion, causing ground subsidence.

After the incident, relevant leaders from Nanjing visited the site and directed their efforts to organize traffic in a timely manner to divert traffic. The first time the bus was picked up and the pit was backfilled. Due to strong disposal, the accident did not cause traffic jams and casualties.
