China's first 400-foot jack-up rig was built in Dalian

This morning, at Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Group Co., Ltd., China’s first 400-foot jack-up drilling platform (Offshore Oil 941) was handed over by China National Offshore Oilfield Services Co., Ltd., China Shipbuilding Heavy Industry International Trading Co., Ltd. and Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Group Co., Ltd. The ceremony was held grandly. The largest scale in China, the highest degree of automation, and the deepest working depth, the construction of the 400-foot drilling platform (JU2000) with the international advanced level has marked a major breakthrough in the development of large-scale offshore oil equipment in the national “Eleventh Five-Year Plan”. It is of great significance to safeguard the development of China's large-scale offshore oil resources and implement energy security strategies.

Deep-sea oil operations are an important frontier for the offshore oil industry. For a long time, limited by China's offshore oil exploration and development technology and equipment, offshore oil development can only be carried out offshore. At present, China's offshore water drilling platform with the deepest water depth is only 80 meters. As the development and utilization of marine oil and gas resources in China shifts from offshore to deep sea, the demand for large offshore oil equipment is gradually increasing.

In March 2004, Dalian Shipbuilding Heavy Industries signed a contract with CNOOC for two 400-foot drilling platforms, compared to two of the same types of drilling platforms in the world. The offshore oil COSL941 jack-up drilling ship was built to achieve full automatic control, and the cantilever beam length was 75 feet. The drill rig has front, rear, left and right movements. It can drill more than 30 wells at a time. The rated water depth is 400 feet and it can be drilled at a depth of 122 meters. To accommodate harsh sea conditions, the 400-foot rig has high demands on materials, welding processes and precision. In this regard, Dalian Shipbuilding Heavy Industry has trained more than 100 welders with 6GR qualifications, and has successively overcome key technical processes such as pile legs, central control systems, and high and low pressure mud systems. The 167-meter pile leg is to be docked by lifting the ship, which is the first time in the construction of domestic marine engineering, and the lifting gear box is assembled by more than 1,700 parts, which requires very high construction precision. Dalian Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. set up a research and development team. The construction personnel were strictly controlled in quality control and carefully operated. They finally broke through the technical and construction problems and ensured the construction quality and progress of the 400-foot drilling platform.

In recent years, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Group Co., Ltd. has been vigorously developing the marine engineering market while strengthening and expanding the shipbuilding industry. It has successively built marine engineering modules, FPSO, integrated inspection vessels, underwater conduit engineering vessels, and BG9000 for domestic and foreign owners. Submersible drilling platforms, air cushion combined drilling platforms, etc., have been recognized and trusted by domestic and foreign owners. It is understood that this year, only the value of marine engineering production can account for about 30% of the company. At present, Dalian Shipbuilding Heavy Industry has four contracts for the same type of drilling platform. The two drilling platforms built for the US company (NOBLE) were signed by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. as the general contractor, which was the first time in the domestic shipyard.
