Nanjing Changjiang Fourth Bridge Project opened to traffic

On December 24, 2012, the first three-span continuous suspension bridge in China, the Nanjing Fourth Yangtze River Bridge, was opened to traffic.

The Fourth Bridge of the Yangtze River is located 10 kilometers downstream of the Second Bridge, starting from the east of the beam town of Liuhe District in the north, connecting the northeast section of the Nanjing bypass motorway and the Ningtong Expressway, ending in the Qilin Town of Jiangning District, and connecting to the southeast section of the Nanjing Expressway. The Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway has a total length of nearly 29 kilometers, of which the cross-river bridge is 5.5 kilometers long. The two-way six-lane freeway standard construction was adopted across the board, and 4 interchanges were set at the crossbeam, dragon robe, Qixia, and Qilin, and red light and Xianlin were interchanged.

The main span reaches 1,418 meters. At present, China's No. 1 and the world's third-largest span suspension bridge, the "seven-colored rainbow" lighting system ... and the "flashing" keywords have given the Four Bridges more connotations: such a large span. The structure of the suspension bridge must be used, coupled with the special location and geological environment of the bridge, and it is determined that this large-span suspension bridge will be closely linked with “risk” and “difficulty” from the beginning of the incubation period. In order to ensure the smooth opening of the Fourth Yangtze River Bridge, the entire construction project was divided into 58 bid sections, and a total of nearly 20,000 builders were on site.

After the opening of Nanjing No. 4 Yangtze River Bridge, the outer ring of Nanjing’s traffic pattern changed from the original “C” shape to “O” shape, and the urban surrounding area of ​​Nanjing City expanded from 243 square kilometers within the Ring Road to 1,459 square kilometers. Expanded 5 times in one move.
