Micro-robots are typical MEMS systems. It is small in size, as big as a scorpion or a fly, and some even smaller, so small that we can't see them. Countries around the world have made many achievements in the research of micro-robots.
Researchers in Switzerland and the United Kingdom reported in the journal Science Progress that they developed a flexible micro-robot. The robot is about 1 mm long and can be made smaller with other techniques.
Inspired by the transformation of some microbes in nature with environmental changes, the researchers said that they have developed this robot composed of gelatinous nanocomposites. The robot gel contains magnetic nanoparticles that can be controlled by an electromagnetic field or can move in the body by itself, without the need for sensors or brakes. It is reported that this robot can move like a swim in a viscous or fast-flowing liquid without causing rejection. When passing through a tortuous system such as a narrow blood vessel, its speed, direction and controllability are unaffected.
It is reported that this micro-robot is expected to deliver the drug to the lesion tissue in the body and play a huge role in medical treatment.
