Sewage pump maintenance and troubleshooting

First, when it comes to the inspection and maintenance of sewage pumps such as the AS, AV, and WQ series, these pumps are known for their excellent performance, stable operation, and long service life. Each unit undergoes rigorous factory testing, including visual inspections, and features permanently lubricated ball bearings along with high-quality mechanical seals in the oil chamber, ensuring durability. However, to maximize the lifespan of the pump, regular inspection and maintenance are strongly recommended.

1. Regularly check the motor phase and insulation resistance, which should be above 2MΩ. If not, disassemble and dry the motor. Also, ensure the grounding is secure.

2. The gap between the impeller and the cutting mechanism (base cover) should be 0.3–0.5 mm. Over time, this gap may increase due to wear. To adjust, disconnect the power, loosen the set screw, and rotate the cover slightly to restore the original clearance.

3. After repeated use, it's advisable to run the pump in clean water for a few minutes to prevent sediment buildup inside the pump chamber, which could affect its performance.

4. After six months of use in the specified medium, inspect the oil chamber seal and replace the 10#–30# machine oil if necessary. If the conditions are harsh, consider replacing the mechanical seal. To change the oil, place the pump so that the oil plug faces downward, drain the old oil, clean the chamber with detergent oil, and refill with 70%–80% of the correct amount. Replace the O-ring and tighten the plug securely. If water is found in the drained oil (appearing as a milky emulsion), clean the oil chamber thoroughly and re-install the oil. After three weeks, check again—if the lubricant has turned into an emulsion, inspect the mechanical seal and replace it if needed (contact our maintenance team). If on-site replacement is possible, perform an airtight test at 0.5 kg/cm² before reinstallation.

5. In case of pump failure, avoid making assumptions or attempting repairs without proper knowledge. If the issue persists after following the troubleshooting steps, do not dismantle the unit yourself. Instead, contact our maintenance department for professional assistance.

Second, common causes of sewage pump failures and how to troubleshoot them:

1. Reduced flow or head: This can be caused by reversed rotation, excessive lift, bypassing of the medium, pipe leakage, blockage by sediment, partial pump blockage, or worn impeller/base. Solutions include reversing the power supply, checking the system setup, closing valves, repairing leaks, cleaning pipes, and adjusting or replacing parts.

2. Pump fails to start: Possible reasons include air lock, valve issues, or reversed rotation. To resolve, open and close the valve frequently, ensure the valve is correctly installed, and reverse the power if necessary.

3. Frequent cycling: This often happens due to a float switch set too short or a faulty check valve allowing backflow. Adjust the float switch to extend the cycle duration or repair the check valve.

4. Pump won’t stop: This may be due to a faulty float switch or a stuck float. Check and replace the float switch if needed, or adjust the float position.

5. Circuit breaker trips upon starting: This can occur due to low or high voltage, incorrect motor wiring, or sediment buildup. Check the voltage, shorten the cable if necessary, use a transformer if required, verify wiring, and clean the pump and tank.

6. Fuse blown or circuit breaker tripping: This might be caused by a faulty float, short circuit in windings, connectors, or cables, or a blocked pump. Check the float switch, test for short circuits, and clear any obstructions before restarting.

7. Pump won’t start: Possible causes include no power, open circuits in windings, cables, terminals, or control box. Verify the power supply and inspect the wiring, connectors, and motor windings.
